What is the difference between style and period? |
| A |
A style can be an antique or it could have been made yesterday. "Period" means that the piece was made during the "period" when that particular king, queen or ruler was in power. The design of a piece was influenced by the time period of that ruler and his ministry. Ask the approximate "Circa" (year) that the piece you are looking at was made. This way you learn a little more about its history and can enjoy visualizing how the piece was used and its surroundings! |

Why am I getting spaces between the planks on the top of my antique buffet! I am so concerned and I don't know what to do. Do I fill it?
Help!!! |

I am going to guess that it is WINTER!
During the winter we have our heating systems on. This takes all the moisture out of the air. The dryness takes the natural moisture out of wood.
When the heat is turned OFF you will notice that as the wood acclimates to the change, those separations will disappear! It's a good idea to keep potted plants or a vessel with flowers in the room during winter months when the heat is turned on, this can help provide moisture in the air!
Think, for those of you who have a piano... this is why it was highly recommended to keep a humidifier in your piano! The delicate mechanical wood pieces of a piano can shrink with dryness. Massive re-tuning and possible breakage on those delicate wood pieces can occur (this is only one reason for the humidifier!)
P.S. This can happen to your wood floors, leather, and NEW furniture.
